You Can Be Your Own Boss : Break Free by Don Soriano

He has gone bankrupt with P500,000 in dept but became financially free 3 years after and is now operating 3 multi-million businesses! Crazy, right? This book which was written by him, hit me so bad. I can't express in words how it made me felt positive and inspired. Last week, I received a book from multi-millionaire Don Soriano.

"Break Free" by Don Soriano
8 Principles to Get from Employee to Employer in 3 Years or Less

Okay, so this book doesn’t revolve on his story alone. Here, he shares the principles on how you can get from employee to employer in 3 years or less. You can get all the learnings in 1 hour guaranteed, Well, that's what the book says but if you're like me where you tend to contemplate on things in almost every paragraph, that won't work. Hihi. (But that's a good thing, honestly) I love to travel and memories for me are the the best places.

I remember when I, myself was working in a real estate company. One of the seminars which I attended there thought us to instill in our minds that we should be “mukhang pera” in order to push ourselves in getting clients. It’s somehow true but having that mindset loses the goal of being successful and be completely happy. Quoting words from Don Soriano’s book, “True happiness can never be found in money. True happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy whether you had the money or not." And since I learned a lot from this book, I’m doing a book review series. Yes, when I say A LOT, one post isn't enough. Alright, so here are some pieces of advice I got from the the first Chapter,  Principle #1. Go read and absorb them.

1.     According to the author, we should be a sponge. Work on ourselves, improve all our habits, look up to successful people and model their mindset and philosophies. Soak in all the information and start to change.

2.     It brought me into realizations and  transported me into the days where I work in Dubai. I spent my 2 years, working in a photography studio. It’s somehow related with my business today but the difference is, I’m an employee that time and I’m not a photographer when I was there. Guess what? I worked with that foreign company with the thought of leaving soon and just get some infos so I could start a business on my own. You know, I wasn’t ME during those period of my life.  I chose not to be the best employee on those years. I do have personal reasons, yes. #1 is that you don’t show-off all your talents abroad. Your boss might either appreciate it or abuse it. Okay, so it’s either you’ll get promoted (which is very rare since in reality, they prioritize other nationalities) or you get to work with a lot of duties not included in your job description, and the list goes on. So what did I do? I resigned. I went back to my homeland and started my own biz immediately. But reading the first chapter in this book made me think, uh-oh! I was wrong somehow. Bottom line is, I shoudn't play superhero and take the risk of working on my own immediately. I learned that I should also consider some things as well. In my case, I relied so much with my skills without any background in photography so I had to build my protfolio for a couple of months, etc.

3.  Don’t quit your job and take the leap just because you have a ‘great business idea’ - Don Soriano”

Never do something just because you’re after the money.  You want freedom from your 9-5 job? That’s the reason? Wrong. See more of the explanation inside the book.

4.     “Idle time is the devil’s playground. -Don Soriano”
We shouldn’t allow ourselves to waste time. We should be productive and make sure we learn something new from time to time.

5.    Some were like, “I can’t do this, I can’t do that.”  “I have other priorities other than that.” or “I’m contented with this salary, I’m okay really.”
Closing your mind with all the possibility that you can be successful can hinder yourself from reaching your goals. Question is, are you willing to make your dreams a reality or you’re just relaxed with dismissing your dreams because you’ll know it’ll never happen? According to Don Soriano, you’re just making an excuse to make yourself feel better as to why you still haven’t achieved the life you want. And it’s true! But first things first, have the book. Read more with this chapter and the rest by purchasing at the book. Master the principles and apply it. As the author said,  "Experience is the NOT the best teacher. The experience of others is an even better teacher. It’s less expensive.” We don’t have to make the same mistakes that happened to him, learn from it and the rest will follow. (If only I read this book that time, I'd be wiser with my decisions...)

The book is P300 plus shipping fee. It will be available soon in bookstores but for now, you can order it online. I know you want your own copy! Here are the steps:

Getting Fit at CrossFit MNL

"Uy, tumaba ka!" For body conscious people, it's not a compliment. Sacrificing carbs, chocolates and other fatty foods is no joke and all they say when you get to meet again is ...you get fat? Ouch!
We all have that goal of having a perfectly fit body with curves in the right places.

Well, my body is not perfectly toned. I may have an athletic figure where I can make my abs visible within a week of a hell in the gym. (It's inborn, tysm genes) Yet, I'm not blessed with a Victoria's Secret model frame (meaning I'm a bit flat-chested and I have zero behind) Lol.  That's too much, but it's close to that, haha! I don't regularly go to the gym but whenever there's a specific event or that time of the month when we expect lots of food (Hello, December!), I drag my sister and go exercise!

Normally, I just do threadmill, sit-ups and a bit of weight liftings. But this experience from Crossfit MNL- Alabang is different! They had this so called Bootcamp -WOD.

My sister and I were a bit late but we first had stretching and warm-ups before it actually started. I didn't actually knew there's a proper way of doing the squats, the overhead squat actually. Thanks to our coach, he really did a great job teaching us the right way (step by step).

Then the met con. We had to run for 4 minutes (200m run) outside then another 6 minutes doing the Bar touches(6x), air squats (3x) and 10m run sprint for as many rounds as possible!

Fellow bloggers

Our skill level is probably zero that time but according to our coach, as we put more intensity, we will progress further.

Super handsome coach Sid Salazar teaching us everything we had to learn about getting fit.

Okay, I thought we can exercise intensely everyday but he told us to make our bodies rest too. We can do 2 or 3 times a week but never 7 times a week.

My sister and Coach Sid

Healthy packed meals for us, bloggers!

Remember, it's not always about getting sweaty in the gym. We also have to watch what we are eating.

Oh, Reebok! I'm also wearing Reebok OOTD that time, talk about coincidence!

7 Flavors Restaurant of Chef Boy Logro

I was invited for a sample buffet and fruit shakes to Chef Boy Logro's 7 Flavors Restaurant at their San Juan Branch. It was raining uber hard that night but because I'm very much eager to try out this resto,  I braved the rush-hour traffic and heavy rain. And I made it! I was late but it's all worth it.

There were lots of people outside the moment I arrived. There were photobooth right in front of the entrance so I expect they also cover birthdays and events. The receptionist/hostess that was on duty that time politely led me to the 2nd floor where bloggers and other guests are.

And oh, they also have a big parking space.

I like the ambiance. Simple yet classy. Good thing, I also met fellow bloggers. And they are so game in taking my pictures. Of course I took photos of them too! Haha :)
Thank you friends!

But the best thing about this place is definitely the FOOOOOOOOOOOD!
They have variety of food selections with a sweet, sour, salty, bitter, spicy, umami (in Japanese, it means "pleasant savory taste") and astringent. Definitely the reason why they named the restaurant 7 flavors! They just opened last May 2015, btw.

Buffet Area

Dessert

Juices
(they also have sodas, shakes, and other drinks but have separate prices)

The choices of foods were not that big as the other buffet restaurants but they do have quality foods, I'll tell you.
They change set of foods from time to time but this was their set of dishes this week:

Pasta Vongole
I love pastas! And this one never failed me! It tastes really good. I might go for a second plate if this one's not a buffet, hehe.

Stir Fry Pork

Chicken Marengo

Beef Kare- Kare
Haven't tried this one but my fellow bloggers said this one is their fave!

Bagoong

Mafu Tofu

Mixed Seafood Curry
This one is soooo good also! Something new to my taste.

Grilled Salmon Head with Lemon Butter Sauce

Buttered Vegetable

Emerald Rice

Steamed Rice
I get full really easy. So yes, I did not get even a half cup of rice.

Vegetable Tempura

Calamares

Grilled Liempo

Pizza

Roast Beef

Jap foods are always the best! Yum!

Halo - halo station

Ranch Dressing, Thousand Island Dressing and Caesar Dressing

Vinaigrette, Honey Mustard, Raspberry Dressing

Make-your-own Salad!

Kani Salad

Potato Croquettes

Macaroni Salad

Crab Louie Salad
Omg, I love this one! One of the best salad I've tasted!

Fresh Fruits

Tacos

Bread and Butter

Seafood Chowder

I tried their strawberry soda!

Tacossssss!
I must say this one is really really mouth watering and really really good! I won't be surprised if their tacos is one of their best seller.

Cookies

Brownies

Mango Royale

Coffee Jelly

Cream Puff

Maja Blanca

Carrot Cupcake

Andd tadah!
They also have an Ice Cream station :)

Chef Boy Logro's right there... on tv! hihi!

All in all, I'm giving 7 flavors an A+.
I can't wait to come back with my boyfriend! My xxxx hours travel from the south to San Juan is all worth it. Thank you so much 7 flavors!

Thank you also Sir Albert Borja (7 Flavor's Chief Operating Officer) for the warm welcome and interesting stories and background of 7 flavors! I enjoyed dining in most especially with a good company and a good laugh.
